What BIOSPAIN 2021 was
BIOSPAIN is the largest biotech event organized by a national bioindustry association in Europe, and one of the largest in the world by number of one-to-one meetings and companies participating. The 2021 edition — the tenth — was organized by AseBio, the Spanish Bioindustry Association, with the support of the Government of Navarra, and ran as a hybrid event during the European Biotech Week.
Because of COVID-19 capacity restrictions, the event was structured in three layers:
- Virtual exhibition, 27 September – 1 October — a wide-ranging online exhibition providing a visual focus and interaction with the sessions (exhibitors list).
- Online partnering through the partneringONE® system, 27 September – 1 October — one-to-one meetings between companies, investors and institutions.
- Program sessions in hybrid format, 29 September – 1 October, held at the Baluarte conference centre in Pamplona-Iruña and streamed on the virtual platform (program).
Spanish biotech in numbers
According to the AseBio Report 2019, cited by the event: 751 dedicated biotechnology companies operated in Spain in 2018 (up 5.3% year on year), generating more than €8.2 billion in income — roughly 0.7% of the national total — and supporting more than 105,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs.
